🌍 Petra, Jordan's hidden treasure
"Hello! I'm Chappie, a World Heritage Site Navigator.
Today, together with Director Hitomi, I will be showing you around Petra, the "lost ancient city" that lies in the desert of Jordan in the Middle East!
🏛 Petra, a temple city carved into rock, was the capital of the Nabataean Empire, which flourished from around the 4th century BC.
Its greatest feature is the magnificent structure carved directly out of the towering red rock mountain.
The famous buildings in the photo are "Al-Khazneh (The Treasury)" and "Ed Deir (Monastery)".
It is 40 to 50 meters tall!
🕌 The oasis city of Petra, which prospered through trade, was located at the crossroads of caravan routes carrying incense and spices.
It flourished as a trading hub connecting the Arabian Peninsula, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Silk Road.
🌅 Why it's called the "Rose City" The red and pink sandstone that decorates the buildings glows pink in the morning and evening light.
Because of its beauty, it became known worldwide as the "Rose City" when it was rediscovered in the 19th century.
World Heritage Site registration
It was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
In 2011, it was selected as one of the "New Seven Wonders of the World."
💬 A word from Chappie: "Petra is not just a ruin, it is a testament to human creativity carved into the desert!
Don't forget to bring comfortable shoes and water when you go!

📜 Introducing Chappie, the World Heritage Navigator
🌍 A Journey to Ukraine's World Heritage Sites (Spring 2018)
"Hello, I'm Chappie, a World Heritage Site Navigator.
Today I would like to introduce you to some of the beautiful World Heritage sites in Ukraine that I visited with Director Hitomi.
I hope that the day will come when peace will be restored to this country and everyone will be able to visit in peace."
🏛 1. Saint Sophia Cathedral, Kyiv
Built in the early 11th century, this is one of the oldest churches in the Eastern Slavic world. Characterized by its golden dome and beautiful frescoes and mosaics, it is a symbol of the history and faith of Kievan Rus.
⛪ 2. Kyiv Pechersk Lavra
Founded in 1051, the Caves Monastery houses the holy remains of monks in underground caves. Its vast grounds and magnificent churches continue to attract faith as a center of Eastern Orthodoxy.
⸻
🏘 3. Lviv Historic Centre
The city has flourished as a key trading hub since the Middle Ages. A diverse range of architecture, including Renaissance, Baroque, and Art Nouveau, coexists here, and the cobblestone squares are filled with the scent of culture and art.
When Director Hitomi visited in the spring, the town was decorated with colorful Easter egg art.
💬 A word from Chappie: "Ukraine's World Heritage Sites are treasures that combine the weight of history with the warmth of the people.
I hope that in an era of peace, we will once again be able to enjoy this beautiful scenery and culture together."

📜 Introducing Chappie, the World Heritage Navigator
⸻
🌄 Machu Picchu, Peru | The Inca Empire's Sky City
"Hello, I'm Chappie, a World Heritage Site Navigator.
Today, I would like to introduce to you Machu Picchu, a spectacular World Heritage Site in Peru, South America, which Director Hitomi visited in December 2012.
⸻
🏔 The mysterious Inca civilization of Machu Picchu is the ruins of the Inca Empire, built at an altitude of about 2,400m in the Andes Mountains.
It was founded in the 15th century, but was not discovered during the Spanish invasion of the 16th century and was called the "Lost City" until it was rediscovered in the early 20th century.
⸻
🏛 The city's architecture, made of skillfully stacked structural stones, appears to be one with the natural rock formations.
The temples, plazas, and terraced fields blend together in harmony to create a magnificent landscape of a city in the sky.
⸻
🌿 Harmony with Nature Surrounded by a sea of clouds and lush mountains, Machu Picchu is a testament to the fact that the Inca people regarded nature as sacred and lived in harmony with it.
The view leaves visitors in awe and awe.
⸻
💬 A word from Chappie: "Machu Picchu is a place where the wisdom of the Incas and the harmony with nature are embodied.
Standing in this celestial city nestled in the mountains, you can feel the timeless pulse of the Incas.
⸻
This commentary, along with photos of the site taken by Director Hitomi,
This is the third installment of the World Heritage corner, and we can convey its overwhelming charm.

• Classification: Cultural Heritage
• Location: Normandy, France
• Name: Mont Saint-Michel and its bay
⸻
2️⃣ The mysterious "floating monastery"
• A "miracle island" that changes appearance with the tides
→ The tidal range is up to 14 meters! It was once a "natural fortress" that was isolated when the tide came in.
• The Abbey of Saint-Michel stands at the top of the island.
It is said to have been built in the 8th century at the behest of Archangel Michael.
⸻
3️⃣ Architectural Appeal
• It combines Romanesque style (heavy stonework) and Gothic style (spires reaching to the sky).
• The monastery was called the "Heavenly Jerusalem" and was a place of aspiration for pilgrims.
• The interior corridors and the great hall, the Knights' Hall, exude a mysterious atmosphere.
⸻
4️⃣ Stage of history
• In the Middle Ages it was a popular pilgrimage site and also served as a fortress.
• After the French Revolution it was briefly used as a prison and was revived as a monastery in the 19th century.
• It remains one of France's top tourist attractions, attracting over 3 million visitors a year.
⸻
5️⃣ Iconic Landscapes
• At low tide: The "Miracle Road" allows you to walk to the island.
• At high tide: A fantastic sight floating on the sea → As you can see in the photo, Director Hitomi also enjoyed this beautiful sight✨
⸻
✨ Director Hitomi's visit points
• The contrast between the blue sky and the monastery is captured in a photo at a truly beautiful moment.
• Inside the monastery, you can experience the mysterious cloisters and chapels that remain exactly as they were in the Middle Ages.
• The view facing the sea is a famous spot where you can experience the "mystery of a World Heritage Site."
⸻
🔑 Summary Mont Saint-Michel is
"A miraculous World Heritage Site born from the sea, faith, and architecture"
I believe that Director Hitomi's trip in July 2019 was a wonderful experience, allowing her to experience the pilgrim route that has continued since the Middle Ages.
